That sounds like the engine knocking. Are you still getting full boost? (boost gauge getting to the top of the red hatched area). If the needle only goes straight up, then the engine is knocking and the engine control is cutting back on boost to prevent knock. But it can cut back boost only so much - the engine still may be knocking under load (like going up hill).
First, what kind of gas are you using? If you're running regular (87 octane in the US), try running a higher octane. If that fixes the problem, then you know it is knock. The engine shouldn't knock on 87 octane, but that's a new engine. At 98K, you may have carbon buildup on the pistons and a vacuum leak or two. That'll cause knock. Fixing the vacuum leaks would be nice, but if you've got carbon buildup, it'll be cheaper to run better gas.
Also, make sure you've got the exact right NGK spark plugs as specified in the manual. If they're over 20K miles old, replace them. Make sure they are gapped properly. If that doesn't fix it, try one heat range cooler. Yes, that means buying and installing another set of plugs, but that's maybe $20 buck in plugs and 15 minutes of work. Well worth the effort.
Fix the ping. The Saab engine isn't designed to knock, and it'll damage the engine.
