Well I just replaced the Fuel Pump motot on a 1992 Saab 9000 CD Turbo with 164,000 miles. Was the most difficult fuel pump replacement I have ever done. Other cars Like Infinity G20 and BMW 325 i are much easier even though you have to remove the rear seat. With the Saab 9000 CD all you have to do is lift the trunk floor panel and take off a cover (easy), but then a padded molding piece that runs along the bottom of rear seat on the trunk side has to be removed before the fuel pump can be lifted out of the gas tank. This was the difficult part as it took me some time to find the one Torx screw (T 20)in the middle that had to be removed. This was very difficult as the screw was angled so it couldn't be removed with a standard Torx screw drive or minature Torx rachet. I finally had to remove the center arm rest on the back seat and drill a 3/8 in hole in the metal panel underneath to put my Torx screw driver through. Finally got this molding piece off and the plastic ring around the top of the fuel pump off. This can be loosened by either crossing large screw drivers or hitting a screw driver with a hammper against the plastic ridges where they join the ring. You have to be careful not to break the plastic piece so I sprayed the thread area with some WD 40 to help loosen the ring. The motor replacement is relatively easy. By the way the pressure and return tubes are just held into the plastic piece on Top with two O rings and can be pulled gently out. Be careful not to break the plastic piece covering the spot where the tubes go into the fuel pump. This is held on by another Torx screw which you can't see. I broke the piece before I discovered it had a Torx screw holding it down. Then I had to cut the hard rubber tube that looked like it was heat shrinked to the old motor off and rejoin with a hose clamp when I attached it to the new pump motor. I heated the hard rubber tube up with boiling water poured over it to soften so it could be pushed onto the new pump motor. Finally got everything back together again. Still have to purchase the plastic check valve joining the gas return to the tank as it broke (The plastic had adged and was weak)when I tried to gently pull it out of the plastic top. This is a dealer part. This part was not designed to be easily replaced. If I had to do again, however, I could do in 1/10 the time this job took me. Hope this narritive helps others who attempt to replace a fuel pump on a 9000 CD. Other models may be easier.
