I just put a new transmission in my 9k because a previous mechanic had removed the ATF cooler from the system. In other words, they put the hoses together, so that the fluid ran out of the tranny and right back in. Result? Burned out tranny.
One suggestion I have is that you check to see if the cooler itself is leaking, or if it is the hoses themselves. Following a suggestion from Ari and Swedecar, I was able to simply purchase some hydraulic hose and attach that to the old fittings. Works great! It could also be a leak coming from the washers at the banjo bolts--replace with new copper ones.
Good luck.
