I got mine from Sobstory Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Tue, 12 Oct 2004 08:28:24 In Reply to: Whatever you do, don't drive it until its fixed., Lu, Tue, 12 Oct 2004 02:07:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
It was about $180 plus shipping, we worked out a deal on a core charge since my old one was cracked. Jim is a great guy, excellent personal service. Note that I reused the old tie rod locking nuts to avoid having to use two same-sized wrenches - the new nuts are one size smaller than the old ones, same size as the flats on the tie rod ends. You may want to replace the tie rod ends while you are at it, they are inexpensive.
Installation on cars with manual transmissions is fairly time consuming, as the gear selector rod will prevent you from pulling it out the right side - I had to drop the left side subframe to get mine out. I don't know if it's any easier with an automatic transmission.
While you are at it, you should consider refurbishing the power steering hoses, which are probably starting to "weep" on a 1991 car. I took my old hoses to a hydraulic shop that installs new hose on the old fittings - they claimed that the quality of their materials is much better than OEM, no more drips. I installed the hoses on the rack before putting it in the car, which minimizes the chance of cross-threading the fittings.
