Clutch hose replacement - which one best?? Long post

I'm getting mentally ready to drop the transmission and rebuild the slave cylinder which failed several months ago, a week or so after the clutch master was replaced (fluid now drains into a big puddle under trans)
this is an otherwise nice 92 9000S non-turbo with 169K
I couldn't bring myself to spend a lot of money fixing the car because there's been a slight whine developing in the trans that only goes away when i depress the clutch or during those brief moments when the trans isn't under load, such as a quick rise on the highway
So, i bought a 93 9000 CSE intead, and now I'm opting to clean and rebuild the slave myself with the $15 kit (time being free) and replace the slave to clutch master hose, which is the one I understand to be the failure culprit - IS THIS TRUE?
I'm not sure yet whether I'll spend the $200 for the clutch kit, it felt fine before, but i have a feeling it's original. Any thoughts? Only problem was an occasional first to second shift that wouldn't go unless I let off the cluch and depressed again.
When searching some online sellers, I've seen a straight all metal slave to CM hose, that I assume can be bent and used appropriately, it's only $51 as opposed to $41 for the metal with the flex hose on the end.
Any thoughts on which one to use? I'd hate to break the metal one trying to bend it into the right shape, but not having the rubber to disintegrate someday is a good thing, for me or whoever owns the car in the future (provided it survives to another owner).
Anyone else out there rebuild the slave cylinder??
