I have a 3.2 megapixle camera, that takes pictures at 2048x1500 or something...

i can post those pictures fine, it lets me...

however they take up all of the screen, and then some...

i try and resize them to about 1024x768, but still sometimes the file size is 300k-500k and up...

so i don't think there is a set limit, just try to keep the numbers small...

i use adobe photoshop to cut the image sizes down...

if you have photoshop, there is a process of shortcut keys to use to get this done quickly.

Open the picture with photoshop, then hit the following keys

hold down alt, and tap "I" twice

then depending on how large the picture is, type the number in for pixles, usually, the larger number goes first like 1024

then hit TAB twice, and type the second smaller resolution number, like 768

then hit enter

the picture is now resized to an appropriate size

you can go smaller to 800 x 600 too... but then you lose detail

THEN, hold down SHIFT and ALT and tap "S" for the save as command

and choose to save this picture as a JPEG file, and rename is somehting easy, like post1.jpg, and save it on your desktop to find it

NOW... adobe will ask you for the quality setting, a numner between 0 and 12, which is low to high quality,

the lower the quality, the smaller the size. Honestly, since i start with such a high resolution, i can go to 1 or 2 for quality, and you'd never know it... that's how i get the filesize down'

you should invest in a program like photoshop if you take lots of digital pictures... everyone should have it. other programs can do this, but obviously my shortcuts won't be the same.

SO...

now that you have the filesize and resolution set, you need to POST YOUR PICTURE TO A WEBSITE!

this is what some people do not understand.

YOU CANNOT POST A PICTURE ON THE SAABNET BB SYSTEM DIRECTLY FROM YOUR COMPUTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you have to find a server website to host your pictures

i use yahoo geocities, and i pay $5 a month to hold 25 mb of pictures, which is a lot when you set that to be small file sizes.

you can find free sites to do this on, or use other member's sites, but whatever site you use, you need to UPLOAD your pictures onto it, to be able to post your link on saabnet

the process i use is like this

I go to the url: http://www.geocities.com

i log in as my username and password

then it has a menu for me, and there is an UPLOAD FILES button

I can upload many files at a time, like 5-10 files...(pictures)

it doesn't take very long, i've got a cable connection, but for those of you with modems, HAVE FUN... you'll be there a while....

THEN, once my files are uploaded... i can see a list of everything that i've uploaded onto their server

All i have to do, is down through the list, and find the name of the picture or pictures that i've just uploaded, and click on them

it brings the picture up in another internet explorer window, and the address of the picture is run accross the top

in MY case, with yahoo geocities, the address for ALL of my pictures is like this

http://www.geocities.com/griffin800/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.JPG

where the XXX's are, is where i type in the filename

there can be NO SPACES or weird characters when i upload the file on yahoo, and i doubt there can be anywhere else, so get used to naming your files all one word, lowercase, and with a number on the end

that's why so many of my pictures have random 4 letter words and numbers, and they arent named specifically, so that i can find them easily.

try this out...

copy and paste the following link in a new browser window

http://www.geocities.com/griffin800/doop1.jpg

It'll be a picture of mine, i cant remember what exactly...

now where the number 1 is at the end of "doop", change the number to a 2, or a 3 or any number up to 20... and hit enter

the browser will load another picture...

that's just one series of picture posts that i felt uncreative in naming, but it makes it VERY easy to post them on the bb, since they are still in a folder on my computer, i can find them and see what they are before i post the number...

SO ANYWAYS...

people who are having trouble posting, sorry this is so long winded, but i want you to all be able to do this for yourselves.

it's very easy, you just needed someone to tell you how...

i just did, so go back through and if you have any questions, post them on this thread, we'll work through them and get you all on yoru way to posting pics? ok?

;)

now, i'm going to post a pic here...

so in the bottom line, where it says "OPTIONAL IMAGE URL" i'm going to paste the line :

http://www.geocities.com/griffin800/saab_7.jpg

I am also going to paste this line in the top two feilds...

"optional link URL" and "link title"

this way, you will be able to click on the link too...

i would suggest doing this if you are a first time poster, that way if you KNOW the link works, if posting the picture fails for some reason, readers of your post will be able to click the link, even though your picture isn't working...

see how the link is in the bottom in blue?

yeah...

that's about it

so everyone... this concludes todays lesson...

now who knows where i can get this bodykit??? ;)
