Almost all carmanufacturer nowadays use an aluminum core with plastic tanks crimped onto the sides.
The plastic pipe is just an extension of that plastic tank to mount the hose on.
Some radiators have a metal sleeve inside the pipe to stiffen up the plastic and support the pressure from the hose clamp.
Sooner or later the upper radiator hose WILL break off due to deterioration of the plastic due to heat/cool cycles and old antifreeze.
I have seen the radiator last longer if the coolant is replaced in normal intervals (2 years or 30K miles).
