If I recall correctly, the old strips have a convex outer surface (the new ones certainly do). The back (sticky) surface of the new strip is flat, may not stick properly on the rounded edges of an old strip.
Both of my original strips "self removed" when they were hit, the plastic gets very brittle over time, cracks, falls off except for the clips on the ends.
