I was offered a 1993 Saab 9000CD, only 52,800 miles on it, full service history etc for $500 US at the end of 2001. The car had been used as a VIP transporter for a merchant bank in Hong Kong (no wide-open highways there!) I had no knowledge whatsoever of this model, in fact I didn't even know what a Saab was! I researched on the Web and found the TSN Bulletin Board. I spent two days (and nights!) reading pages of it, this convinced me to buy the car.
Thank goodness I did. It has been magnificent. An auto-transmission re-build was needed after the little transmission fluid pipe at the radiator burst and dumped all of the fluid at 60mph. The car did sterling service in Hong Kong for a year, coping with 35 degree C temperatures easily. I then shipped the car to South Africa where I drove it in a Cape Town winter and, even though it was then an LPT car, I relished the performance. I drove from the Cape to Johannesburg and back again at 140-150kph without any bother. Next, the car was brought to England, where I have fitted an intercooler, a Jetronic FPT ECU, and an OEM turbo gauge in the now-wood-effect dash. The only other mod has been the fitting of 100w/90w H4 headlight bulbs to improve the headlights. My Saab is my daily drive (60 miles round trip to work) over the Sussex Downs. Oil changes and auto-transmission fluid changes are done with rigorous frequency and plugs are checked monthly. I'm getting 24mpg and I'm totally happy with my car, I adore it!!
And all of this is due entirely to TSN. It's the reason I am confident enough to tackle almost any job as a DIY case, that way I know my car even better.
I second the thanks to the invaluable resources provided by TSN.
My thanks,
Steve
