just in case it is the sensor, and if you want the fix- Posted by vtsnaab [Email] (#26) [Profile/Gallery] (more from vtsnaab) on Fri, 21 Jan 2005 09:23:29 In Reply to: on board computer display vanished!, kevin campbell, Wed, 19 Jan 2005 15:54:36 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The part is Radio Shack p/n 276-0145.
And, if it is the phototransistor causing the
dimness and not some other cause (use the flashlight
test, it only takes a minute !)
The (clock ?) EDU comes right out very easily, and
also comes apart just as easily and gently.
The part that regulates the brightness is a TIL41
Infrared NPN phototransistor, and it cost me $1.49
to replace with the part mentioned above.
Open the module and replace the existing part with
the radio shack part ('collector' goes toward the
outer edge of the circuit board).
RadShack part is bigger so remove the little tube the
original part is mounted in, if necessary.
This is what worked for mine, and now my '88 is dim,
and the flashlight test proves it is the same cause.
It is a 20 minute job if you can solder it yourself,
really very simple, quick and a reason to appreciate
TSN yet again (where I got the info the 1st time, of
course !!)
Good Luck if you do it !
