Hi Again,
Well today I got the feared verdict and my -88 9000 Turbo failed the California Bayarea Dynamic (severe) smog test (the NO values at 15mph).
Any of you out there with experience in diagnosing reasons for failed smog test? Below I have listed the testresults for the interested...
I replaced O2 sensor maybe a year or two ago (max 10-20K miles), so I think it is OK. A couple of months ago I installed new plug wires, and cleaned-only plugs, rotor - cap since they had been replaced about a year ago. A leaky flex pipe on exhaust (betw header / cat) was alos replaced a year ago. Ignition timing set to 15 BTDC (16 +/-1 allowed).
I am listing all these since I am trying to eliminate some areas in the diagnosis process.
The Test only smog guy said that probable areas would be Temperature / Pressure and he hinted to "EGR system or Cat converter".
The Cat could be a possiblity of course since I have never replaced it in 6 years of owning the car (bought it at 124K Miles), not sure about earlier - no documented history from prior owners.
So here is the result, let me know if you have any ideas pls:
