Hi,
ok - I´ll try to give some more information. Car was a 200hp (FPT) 1996.
The problem is well-known to saab, but too late for a recall !
Pic 11 shows a strainer (wide meshed) used on older saabs ( 87--1990 = 2.0turbo). There were no engine problems.
From 1991 Saab used a modified strainers (smaller meshed) and the problems begun to start. (900II,9-3,9-5 too)
Pic 12 shows a 1993 well cared car with only around 100000miles. You can see particles clogging the strainer---- no oil pressure- engine will die !
You cant avoid these particles-you only can minimize it by frequent oil changes - theres is only one way to avoid your engine dies: Remove the oil sump and clean the strainer - better replacing by unsing a wide meshed, replace O-ring oil pump.
There are some customes in die early 90 (1991 up) with oil pressure problems. You know what saab did ? Right - they replaced the strainer by using a wide meshed.
Sorry my english sux-but you know what I mean.
