So I was out working on my '97 CSE this weekend, mostly trying to fix rattles here and there, but also replacing the signal flasher unit, which I changed out from my '93 CS. It struck me that the '93 is actually a better-built car--almost no rattles and a "tight" feeling at 189K miles as opposed to 51K and a lot of rattles on the '97, and a flasher unit (as well as many other parts) that are still intact and working fine after all those years and miles. Example: I pull the covers off the doors and rear hatch and find wires and electrical connectors that are banging against the sheet metal. Example 2: Body parts that were missing bolts under the car, another simple fix. Couldn't they have found a roll of duct tape in the factory somewhere and spent a few extra minutes taping the electrical connectors down? Etc., etc.
The car was built in late 1997 and sold in 1998. Any others out there with this model year and this experience? Other than the minor stuff, it runs great--but why couldn't they have taken care of the minor stuff?
People who spend $40K on a car don't like to hear rattles and whatnot, even if they aren't "major." Could this be one reason the Saabs lose their value so fast?
