I hope this information is not too late but have you looked at the NADA for comparable valuation? Or for that matter checked your local classified ads. Doing so would give you room to negotiate for more than what the adjuster is offering. Their quote is not an absolute. But just so you know, if the damage on your car exceed say 80% of the total value of your car, it would be adjudged a total loss. (The ramaining 20% is the salvage value, meaning what the insurance gets for your car.) The insurance co. would then offer you the actual cash value of your vehicle. meaning the NADA or Kelly valuation (depending on what they use) less any old damages on your car.
Body shop estimate are just that. The damages could be more or less than what's written for until its torn apart, they could never know for certain the severity of the damage.
If your car is repairable (driveable) and did not sustain frame damage, in other words the impact is limited to the body i.e. fender, grille, HL Assy. it might be worth negotiating with the BS to have it repaired. Frame repair is expensive and unless the shop has a good reputation, I wouldn't consider saving the car.
I hope this helps.
