I bought a 1987 Peugeot 505 turbo at auction in about 1993. Nice car, top of the line, cheap price. However...I couldn't drive it before I bought it, and the car misfired slightly, which I assumed was a relatively minor issue. Not. It turned out the car needed a new piston, of all things, because compresssion was down in one cylinder, and with the turbo engine made by Talbot and parts no longer available stateside, you can imagine the nightmare of getting it fixed. So the moral of the story is, don't buy unless you can drive, period. Yes, there is a reason they're at auction...people are tired of screwing around with them, and there's something big, maybe, wrong. Proceed with caution.
