Getting my bearings - what a hassle!

FYI - even though a stethescope led me to conclude that the whine was from the alternator, I replaced the idler and tensioner pulleys first just in case - to no effect. I spent a pile of time one the phone today trying to track down parts. Managed to get the bearing and brush part numbers from Bosch for my 115A alternator (Bosch P/N 0-12-468-045):
front bearing 1-120-905-533
rear bearing 1-120-905-102
brushes 1-127-014-022
Bosch won't sell to the public, but I was given a bunch of phone numbers of places that would. Only one of about 5 different places I called would order the parts for me. It will be a 15-20 minute trip each way to get them. Don't know what I will be paying. I knew a bearing place could give me equivalents, but I couldn't pull the alternator and go bearing shopping with only one car. All kinds of places rebuild these thihgs, why is is so damn hard for the do-it-yourselfer to find the parts?
Having said all that, it sounds like I may regret my decision to do it myself when I am staring at bearings that I am unable to press out.
