Matt...I have seen two Saabs painted over the belt ways and mirrors. Both were dark blue metallic. I think the effect that you are trying to achieve with the Imola red may be more difficult. Try this on for size.
First you will still have black trim around the doors and black door handles and door handle backings...So, I would paint the mirror housings but leave the attachment brackets black. I would..depending on condition, re-paint the handles and backing black. I would have the trim removed before painting and consider painting the trim inserts only red, all the trim red or trim in red and leaving the trim inserts in black. The grill I wouls remove...repaint the louvers semi-gloss black...may want to touch behind there while you are at it. The reason I suggest removing the trim is to ensure a perfect blend to the body...even where the trim may not fit perfectly flush. You can also paint part of you trim red. I considered removing all of the trim as it looks a little bulky and buying after market trim.....painted to mach the body. You can do anything with money of course. Good luck.
