Which axle? I assume you mean the one that connects to the wheel, but there is also one that runs from the transmission to the carrier on the right side. I too have a hard time believing that a failed rear mount would cause this, as failure is usually gradual, not a sudden thing, and the engine wouldn't shift enough to cause the axle to pop out. Over time however, if the mount is really bad, then I could see this as contributing to the axle problem, but still somewhat of a stretch. If it is the axle from the wheel to the carrier, where is the failure? Did it come out of the inner or out CV joint? Outer could be a failed circlip, or a CV jont that failed horribly. Inner, bad circlip, or a failed tripod bearing, or the companion flange might have pulled out. You really need to get under there and have a look, it will be very obvious once you do. Hope this helps.
