If you have full coverage, assuming the insurance company will total it, take their check for the book value. Then usually, you will be able to keep the vehicle for a small fee like $100 or maybe a little more. Then you can part it out if you have time, selling the engine, wheels, interior bits, etc, etc, and make a lot more money than just selling the car as is (if you even could do that to anyone but a junkyard). But it all depends on how much time and effort you have to put into such a project, whether it's worthwhile to you.
