Local Saab dealer said that the reason I was getting brown sludgy fluid in my antifreeze reservoir was that the head gasket needs to be replaced and is going to cost $1,500. Car is 94 9000CS with 120K miles. Does $1,500 sound right? Also needs 2 new hoses to radiator to fix leaking antifreeze at $400-also sound right for a cost? Edmunds and Blue Book say trade-in is about $1,000 (after work done) but dealer says only worth $100 because it would go to auction and needs work done first. Would think that car is worth more that but any thoughts? Is is safe to drive for a little while trying to figure out whether I need a new car?
