Can' t tell you how many times I've heard that you shouldn't change fluid in a high-mileage transmission. I've been buying used Saabs for about 28 years now, most with 100K or more on them. Step one, change engine oil. Step two, change transmission fluid.
I figure if the tranny is ready to go, I'd rather have it do it in my driveway than on the beltway at 1 am, in sleet or snow.
Haven't had one quit yet.
If the oil is really nasty, will take about a case of fresh fluid at and least 3 drain-refill operations. Then I do the same with synthetic ATF.
