Most of the time TCS problems fall into the categories of Throttle Body related (expensive) and safety valve related (not so expensive).
Though it can be a pain diagnosing problems if they crop up, this is one of those areas like automatic transmissions -- they're known to be troublesome, but their mere presence is not a guarantee of trouble.
Don't anger the TCS gods by contemplating major changes if the system hasn't let you down. If it breaks, you stand a good chance of fixing the problem by doing the usual things. I'd say a good 75% + of TCS gremlins are related to the safety valve or vacuum lines.
