The internal element of an O2 sensor is pretty much the same. As long as it will screw in, is the right sensor length, and has the right number of wires, it'll work.
The major difference between OEM and generic O2 sensors is the electrical connector, or lack thereof. The OEM ones have an electrical connector that mates with the car's harness. The generic ones usually come with just wires. Since the dealer sources the OEM sensor, the price is very high. For the price difference, you can cut the connector off the old sensor, and splice the wires to the new, generic one, so it fits the harness. Well worth the $150 or more savings.
