Many cars suffer from piston slap when the mileage gets above 200,000. The cylinders become ovals and the sides of the pistons begin to hit the walls. I have not seen any such complaints on this forum. Is this due to the better design of the Saab engine or is it just not reported?
The engine and turbo in our 94CSE were still going strong at 280,000 miles when the car was totaled. It had gone through two DIs, one alternator plus a voltage regulator, and the rear bearing oil seal.
Inspect the rear shock towers periodically. If there is a break in the paint and primer from stones thrown up there they will eventually rust out and the top of a shock will end up in the luggage compartment.
