Decided it was time to change the air filter in my 1988 9000T, Had had it for a while, waiting for the weather to get decent. So, last Sat, figured it should take 15-20 minutes. Yeah!
Considerable wrestling to get the Air Mass Meter out, then got the rest apart and exhanged filters. Oops-- in the process, a small hose (most likely OEM and somewhat brittle after 18 years) cracked. Looked like a piece of hose, but sure enough there was a part number. Ok, ordered it Got it, and sure enough it looked like a piece of ordinary hose. Cut to the right length (about 4 inches) and packaged, it was about $5. No biggy, except it turned out to be almost impossible to put on without removing the long air hose which connects the air filter to the turbo-and which has about 3 hoses going into it. Lo and behold, that had also cracked and one of the hoses was no longer going into a sealed fitting.
Removed it, and fortunately there was a part number on it. Even better, the part was available for only $125. Ouch, but would hate to trash the car because it wasn't available. Anyhow, all back together again after a total of 5 days fighting with my wife to use the other Saab. Would have been 7 days, but put her on a plane to Amsterdam yesterday.
Maybe it's time to look for a 9-5 aero replacement before I have to!
