A/C pressures and condenser failure Posted by Keith [Email] (#1462) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Keith) on Fri, 2 Jun 2006 05:31:36 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Have a 95cs turbo. Yesterday i replaced a defective expansion valve, evacuated and refilled the system with r134. Checked high side and low side pressure (275 and 30 lbs respectively at an outside temperature of 90 degrees). system ran fine for 3 hours of during combination of highway and city driving. experienced catastrophic condenser failure while driving in stop and go traffic. obviously lost all refrigerant. the condenser is only 2 years old. since the manual says that the over pressure switch will not kick in until high side pressure exceeds 400 lbs i'm assuming the system is designed to take at least that much pressure. maybe the failure is just a coincidence, but, the condenser is only 2 years old. the previous condenser was also new and had failed after 3 years (slow leak).
it's hot, i'm crabby, and replacing the condenser and receiver/dryer is such a PITA. am i missing something here? anyone with similar failures?
damn, i hate getting old. when i was a kid, i drove across nevada in the summer with no air conditioning and felt no pain. now i whine if i have to go cross town without it. sigh.
