Thule is pin-mounted

The Thule unit uses the pin-mounting holes, but (unless they've changed the design since I purchased some six or seven years ago) the legs have only one pin each (not 2 pins). The other difference from the Saab proprietary rack (also made by Thule, as noted above)is that the Thule unit allows the use of longer bars.
Please rethink the "longer bar" thing if you will. When I was using the Thule set-up (prior to being given a set of Saab racks), my rack bars stuck out well beyond the edge of the roofline. I can't tell you how many times I and other people hit our heads on the blasted things--and they are HARD!
Current Saab rack used on my 98 probably isn't spacious enough for three kayak carriers or a similarly huge load, but at least I don't smack myself on it in the course of daily life.
Another negative about the Thule set up is that it takes a lot longer to mount and dismount than the Saab proprietary equipment.
