I've tried using mid-grade unleaded in the Aero and it would get mild pings going up hill. After hearing those pings, I switched back to premium, and all's well. I've tried mid-grade from no-name brand to a known good EXXON station and the Aero would ping to both, more so in hot weather I presume.
You can probably try mid-grade 89 instead of 91/93 first. Also try mid-grade from different gas stations, you never know who actually sell genuine 89 or just 87 in 89 pumps, the same goes for 91/93. Some years ago, I read an article that mentioned mixing 87 with 91 would do just fine, but I'm sure that's really true or not.
You can tell I'm an eternal skeptic.
