I reset my EDU from time to time and find that it reads about 1 to 1.5 mpg high, at least on highway trips, which is the only time I really check mileage from fill-up to fill-up. Depending on how well I behave, head/tail/cross winds, amount of hills, average cruise speed, the EDU tells me I'm getting between 27.5 and 30.5 on runs to NYC or western NY I do regularly. Reality is 26.5 to 29.0 running 75 to 80. Best I've done on that run is just under 30 mpg actual. Wind can have a huge effect. One day between Syracuse and Rochester I picked up a 35-40 knot headwind and could watch the EDU reading drop from nearly 30 to 27.5 over an hour without me changing speed.
I only got about 26.5 on runs to CT and then Rochester, NY this week, but maybe that's partly heat, humidity and different tires with more rolling resistance. Dunno. Set cruise on 80 which is 77 actual.
Local driving (semi-rural area) the EDU says about 24 mpg, and that's driven moderately.
I do wonder about the gas station pumps. To be accurate in your calculations you have to *really* fill the tank. The auto shut off can vary by as much as 1.5 gallons. And then there is whether the pump is accurate. You'd never know if a pump is off by 0.05 (half a tenth) per gallon, but if one was filling from empty that would add nearly a gallon to the equation.
The instant readout is fun to watch but doesn't seem to be all that useful, but it does generally agree with the longer term reading, at least on a trip.
