Occasional missing on cylinder #2, how to check?

My 96 9000CSE with 120k miles has an occasional miss on cylinder #2 when start (either cold start or hot start, does not seem to matter). This happened after ABJ put in a new DI for me. They thought the new DI was bad, and replaced it with another new one under warranty, and today it happened again. Fortunately I was in Boston, so brought the car to ABJ for a quick check, still cylinder #2. Now that there's little chance that two new DI's are both bad at the same cylinder, they suspect injector or head gasket. It was too late today, they suggested me to bring the car in next week and leave it there for a thorough check.
I live 40 miles from ABJ and it's a major hassle for me to drop the car there . Is there any simple check I can do at home just to rule out some real simple problems?
The symptom is, sometimes the car starts on three cylinders, and cylinder #2 does not fire. It does not matter cold or hot start, sometimes it smooth es out after running a while, sometimes it triggers the check engine light, which shows that cylinder is missing. Sometimes it's cured if I restart the car, sometimes it's not.
btw all spark plugs are proper types, properly gapped when ABJ replaced DI last time.
thanks
