I was driving across midtown manhattan thinking "where is the fire? Surely there will be trucks and horns very soon", until i realized it was INSIDE my car. One of the circuits in engine bay had gotten worn through by the battery. I re-ran a new wire, and it was OK. Before I had gotten it the PO had had crimp connectors plugged into front of fuse panel! (Obvious rewiring jobs). Look for rubbing, and replace with same size at least. Make sure your conections are SOLID, German (Bosch) electrics seem to be adequate at best in that department.
