Sounds like you might need to drill the screw (bolt?) and use a screw extractor, if you can't get a grip on it with vise-grips or pliers. I'm assuming you mean the bolt that holds the alternator to the engine block. It will take some work, but a 1/8" hole drilled in the center of the stuck piece will let you get a screw extractor in it and work it out. Some penetrating oil (Liquid Wrench) will make it easier. I recall having to do this with one of the A/C mount bolts.
