I have owned 9000s from years 87 thru 98, 7 different ones. My favorites are my 91 "Red Rocket" and my son's black 96 Aero, both 5-spds. Last Summer I made the mistake of replacing my wife's 95 CSE with a low miles 98 CSE. Buying the car wasn't the mistake, the color was the mistake. Black/Black, she didn't like it. Since I work at Road Tested Saabs, deals too good to pass up show up or are towed in regularly. When a customer wanted out of his midnight blue 9-5 with tan interior I felt it would be a good way for me to become more intimate with the 9-5 and still keep the 9000. So far Ive pulled the pan and replaced it with an ABC oil pan. Don't believe what you hear about regular oil changes preventing the sludge issues. I've seen several 9-5s and 9-3s with documented oil changes needing engines. You can't tell by just looking under the valve cover either. The oil pick-up screen is so fine I wouldn't recommend flush either without the clean-out oil pan. My car with 137K was very clean. A good sign. My wife's first drive helped me diagnose why I got such a deal as the car died after 15 minutes and wouldn't restart. (Crank sensor, another common problem.) After that, she asked "Is this even a Turbo? it's a dog!". Solution? ecu upgrade. now the lpt feels more than acceptable. It's a very comfortable cruiser although I really prefer the feel of the 9K and like the versatility of the hatch. Hey maybe an Aero wagon with a 5 spd will roll in.
