I had the same problem about a month and a half ago. It turned out to be a coolant leak from the heater core hose. Easy to diagnose in my case since it went from leak to bust very quickly. As the rad got hotter the fuel gauge would plummet down.
Can someone explain that to me? I'm kind of a newbie. How are the engine temp and the fuel gauge related?
