I am the original owner of a 1991 9000 5 Speed that has accumulated 315K miles. My car was originally equipped with an 80 Amp alternator and a single speed radiator fan. The auto transmission cars have a two speed radiator fan and a 115 Amp alternator. I replaced the brushes in my 80 Amp alternator in July, 1999 at 107K miles. They were at minimum length according to the shop manual but the alternator still worked properly. My cost was $3.95 from a SAAB dealer. In July, 2005 at 227K I installed a Bosch remanufactured 115 Amp unit. My original alternator still worked properly but 120K on the brushes nd 227K on the bearings and everything else I figured that it did not make sense to simply change the brushes again. According to the SAAB Electronic Parts Catalog for the 1990-1993 9000s the part number 90349907 voltage regulator is used in both the 80 and 115 Amp alternators.
