I had this problem on my '97 9000CS. Found that if I removed one of the fuses it cut the drain but also stopped the clock and lost all the presets (standard fit radio/cassette). Tried removing seat to get to the amplifier (Nokia) and opened it up to see if there were any relays or the like but none in there (one component looks like a relay but it is just an inductor L1). All this trouble had coincided with the electric aerial failing to operate so thought there might be a link there. Removed the connector from it and the problem still did not go away. Reckoned then it must be the radio/cass. and was getting ready to replace it but wanted to get the electric aerial working again before I did in case I had to do both so I removed it to give it a clean out and check that the motor was still ok and the relay was working. Found that the relay was not activating. Turned out that the earth wire (black with a crimped circular tab connector which is on the side of the antenna assembly) was not making electrical contact with the metal antenna housing (a self tapping screw goes through the tab and screws through the black plastic part of the housing for the tip of the screw to contact the metal part of the housing within, which is, of course, in turn earthed by contact with the rear body panel when mounted). Cleaned this out with WD40 and a sharp pointed instrument followed by a cotton bud and then scraped the oxidation off the screw. Reassembled and checked continuity between the black wire and the metal antenna housing and refitted to the rear panel. Electric antenna now fully operational and lo and behold, the battery drain through the amp remaining on now also fixed. Only thing I can think of from my electronics background is that the radio waits for a back e.m.f. from the antenna and then, knowing that the antenna has retracted, swtches off the power amp. - seems a wierd way of doing it. Since I've fixed the bad earth on the antenna, I've had no problems since (5 months now). One other symptom of the original problem was that I got a loud pop from the speakers when I switched off the radio - again since fixing the bad earth, this has gone away also.
