On a pre late '90s model at least, it's relativily easy, drain the radiator and remove the two hoses, remove the center bolt which holds the radiator in place (you might not have to drain it, you MAY be able to push it forward out of the way) The Intercooler has 2 additional bolts from the front going thru the a/c condenser, once those are removed, and obviously the tubing to the intercooler from the turbo and intake, the intercooler 'pops' up out of it's locating holes and comes out the hood.
Oh, I believe you have to remove the lower front bumper trim to access the lower bolts, the front end is completely removed from mine, so it was a snap ;-) The should be just below the bumper, and with the radiator out you can see the locations, trick is there is a nut on the other side that will probably need to be held in order to loosen, not to mention not loose..
