Radiator fan stuck on

Hi
I've got a weird problem with the radiator fan (97 9000 CS 2.3 lpt auto with aircon not ACC).
Noticed yesterday that the fan was running for ages (10 minutes plus) after I switched the ignition off. I had only driven a couple of miles so the car was still cold.
Even odder was that when I switched the ignition on again (without starting the engine) the fan switched itself off.
Now - if I switch on the ignition on (again without turning the engine) the fan starts up after about 30 seconds.
It can't do much harm having the fan stuck on in summer but I want to fix this eventually.
I am kind of guessing that maybe the fan relay is dodgy (is there anything else that could be going?) but there are two in the box under the bonnet (slow fan and fast fan) - If it is a dodgy relay how can I tell which one it is apart from buying both and swapping them about?
The temperature gauge in the car is fine - goes to about 8 o'clock and stays there.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
