Shift coupler fix/improvement Posted by Porschephile951 [Email] (#2169) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Porschephile951) on Sun, 29 Jun 2008 11:41:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I recently completed a throwout bearing replacement in my 1995 9000, and like every 9000, the shift coupler was in poor shape upon inspection. I saw an opportunity to not only save money and time but also move an aspect of the car toward performance.
I simply threaded self-tapping bolts into the coupler along with washers and tack welded the coupler together; took no more than 10 minutes.
The result was a drastic improvement in shift feel and accuracy. Ever driven a Miata ("shifts like a miata")? It's close. I have disconnected balance shafts and still the vibration isn't intolerable by any means.
In summation, if you value the performance (they type that will replace rubber suspension parts with poly or metal) of your 9000, this was very close to the best "upgrade" I've ever done.
