I'm now in favor of capital punishment. But only for the guy that designed the late model 9000 windshield washer tank mounting.
Yesterday I replaced front rotors and pads in about 1/2 hour per side, replaced right side ball joint in twenty minutes, replaced the right fog light bulb and as long as I was in there, I decided to fix the leak in the windshield washer tank as winter will be here soon.
That took three hours due to how the thing is wedged in there. The mounts pass through the sheetmetal and the retaining nuts also hold the bracket for the A/C dryer unit on the other side. Two ten mm nuts and no room to work. And the black bracket holding the top of the neck.....a Rubicks Cube. I thought the fender would have to come off.
Anyway, FWIW, I used red silicone to seal the crack in the tank (nothing else in the toolbox and I didn't feel like traveling), clean the tank with soap or solvent to give the silicone a chance. Using a hot knife to melt the plastic does not work as the plastic changes and shrinks, making the crack bigger. That may have helped me as it gave the silicone a chance to get into the tank somewhat increasing its hold. So far its holding fluid.
Anyone working on the tank should know that obviously the wheel well liner has to be removed, along with what I think is the charcoal cansiter (easy)and access to the nuts is easier if you remove the headlight, wiper unit and turn signal to reach the 10 mm nuts. Also remove the extension on the filler neck to take the tank out. Those new Sears flat ratcheting / swivel combo wrenches are perfect for this task, not sure I could have completed it without it.
Wait until I meet that engineer.
