Some where along the line the valve manufacture lost control of how the valve were made, at least as far as the longevity goes. The ones originally supplied with the cars would last for years. Some of the replacement ones a few weeks. The valves, new or old mechanically wear out, usually by the valve disc wearing into the W port slots. Best guess is the edges of the disc are not finished properly. If they have rough or sharp edges they wear the center carrier and/or coil ends rapidly. There may have been other changes in materials, coil winding, assembly, etc, that were altered inadvertantly or otherwise when the replacement valves were made.
ScanTech valves appear to be the same as OEM, and most likely made by the same vendor.
