Power steering lines Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Wed, 3 Dec 2008 10:56:49 In Reply to: Re: same problem here, AndyAck, Tue, 2 Dec 2008 16:50:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
You asked: "Are there suspect areas of power steering lines that are known failure points?" Yes, the power steering lines themselves and especially where they attach to the metal end parts - they eventually leak.
What is the level of your power steering reservoir? If it's not where it was when you last checked it, you have a leak somewhere. If you are ambitious about fixing the lines, you can remove them with the end pieces and take them to a hydraulic hose shop where they can replace the rubber hose portion for much less than new hoses cost from SAAB. Keep the lines intact so the shop can orient the end pieces properly. I have done this with my SAAB 9000 power steering hoses and an Audi A4 clutch hose - find a local shop in the Yellow Pages under "hydraulics" or ask for a referral somewhere that does heavy equipment repairs. If this is what's dripping on your catalytic converter, it will stop the problem.
