Most cops see "driving too legally" as a sign of probable guilt (alcohol) and then "find a violation" to stop you and check you out. If he hadn't noticed the one back-up light, which he saw AFTER he had you stopped, you probably would have drifted over the line, not signaled soon enough, etc, anything he could make up. Once he had you for DWI, the initial reason for the stop would be inconsequential.
If I'm being followed by police, I usually try to drive at or just over(1-2 MPH) the posted limit. They expect anyone with nothing to hide to slightly violate the limit.
Go figure.
