I just bought a set of 205/55/16 AST (or ASVs? too cold too check now) and I am EXTREMELY happy with the purchase. They are very smooth and quiet, and handled this weekend's snow and ice well. A slight loss in feel for turn in or braking compared to my old Dunlops Sport A2s, everything is a compromise, but a good bargain tire. At $71 plus M&B&T at Sears across the street from my office, it was a good, convienent deal.

The 9-5 board has a thread that quotes TireRack as referring to Kumho as a "junk tire". I read that as a salesman's attempting to boost his commission by selling a higher priced tire.

I am about to buy a set of ASX's for my 99 Viggen this week based on my most recent Kumho purchase, $48 + $7.50 shipping, no tax, assume $15 M&B at an indie for a 215/45/17 tire, less than half the price of the current Pirelli spec, and given the way the rear negative camber on the 9-3 and Viggens eats tires and the marginal approval rating on Tire Rack's website for the Pirelli above the Kumho, its a steal. I should buy an extra pair. Used to buy only Michelins, then Dunlops Sports A2s as the car (9000 with sport suspension) got older. Primarily used for commuting, Kumhos make sense. Michelins don't make any part of your body bigger, and they get hard as rocks as they age. Dunlops were OK, but were so noisy at the end of their life, I thought I needed wheel bearings at $270, Eeuroparts price, each. New Kumhos proved otherwise.

Check the user's ratings at TireRack, Kumhos were 89% of the best tire's rating, and only 1% behind the Pirellis I would be replacing. Then check the pricing.

Now if they could only improve the taste of the kimchi......
