Electrical portion only Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Fri, 23 Jan 2009 03:54:47 In Reply to: Ignition switch spring broken, 2000AERO, Thu, 22 Jan 2009 20:10:16 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
You just need t replace the electrical portion. You can get it at the place you referenced, or at eEuroparts. The spring is in the switch, which is very easy to replace.
I've got an old posting about replacing the switch:

The good news is that it takes longer to describe how to do it than it takes to do it. It's a 10 minute job.
You want to replace this NOW. With a broken spring, it is possible for the key to slip back into the START position while the engine is driving. I'm pretty sure this happened to a buddy of mine. He had a broken ignition switch (electrical part) and the started was mysteriously dead. We think the starter engaged while the engine was at speed and broke it. Always nice to end on a cautionary note.
