They are really excellent in the rain, at least I find them so. It would have to be a tight turn on a really slippery surface before you broke them loose.
I bought my first set of F1s when I'd fitted Abbott springs and Konis to my previous CSE and found the ride too hard. The F1s have quite soft sidewalls and I find that if you set the pressures at say 36 or 36½ psi you get a good ride with equally good steering response. Let the pressures get soft and they become quite flabby.
They seem to wear faster than the S-03s which we can't get anymore, of course. 10 or 12k miles is typical for me. They also have quite high rolling resistance and I use more fuel than I did with, say, Pirelli P6000s in former years. But as I drive few miles and like to chuck the car about on country roads, I reckon they are worth the expense.
Having said that, I followed up the F1s with a set of four Bridgestones and expected great things from the latter, but found both tyres much on a par in both dry and wet. The Bridgestones lasted well on the back of the car.
Finally, they are not the most expensive tyre on the market these days and that counts for something. I'd reckon they were worth a try.
