Hatch-Latched microswitch can go bad...

Harry:
I know from experience that the tiny lever-action microswitch mounted on the hatch latch mechanism, that tells the pictogram if the hatch is latched or not, can go bad.
I ended up prying one off the latchworks of a junkyard car and it fixed my problem.
But since you say that flipping a switch on the overhead lights makes your pictogram light go out, you might be right that more is going on.
As one test, flip that overhead switch so the light is out, then pop the hatch unlatch button. Does the light come on, as it should?
As another test, after removing the felt cover panel off the inside of the hatch, find and unplug the two wires from that microswitch to the main harness. Light should be off all the time then. Is it?
Good luck tracking it down.
(On your other problem, are your brake lights not only clean at base but matched bulbs, same maker, correct bulb size and wattage?)
