here is a list of things to check:
1. Vacuum hoses. Check for any damage, brittleness or loose connections. Check them all again and replace with Silicone if necessary.
2, Check the 1 way valve for functionality. Suck on it from both ends. One way you will be able to suck the other way you wont. Stick your tongue on the nipple to hold the vacuum. If it falls off your tongue you need a new one. (this is the Red/White or Black/White pipe that goes between the bulkhead check valve and the Inlet manifold.)
3, Check Valves. These 2 valves can be found on the rear bulkhead and on the drivers inner wing. Remove the electrical connector and measure the 2 terminals with an ohmeter. Readings of about 350Ohms are good. If they are open circuit, short circuit or reading high resistance then it needs to be replaced.
4, Check all the vacuum hoses again!
5, Follow the hose from the throttle body to the Check Valve. Disconnect the hose from the check valve and suck on it. Watch the Throttle body. The throttle cable should be pushed out from the TB. Stick your tongue ove the hose to hold the vacuum. If the vacuum leaks away or the throttle cable doesnt move then the Throttle Body is broken. :argh:
6, Disconnect the various electrical connectors that are associated with the Engine Management and ABS. Clean the terminals and use some contact cleaner on all of them. Check the state of the connetors for any loose pins or bad contacts. Very tedious and time consuming.
7, If all of the above does not solve the problem then you need to find a SAAB Dealer who has an ISAT (Tech-II may be too new for your car) so they can do a thorough diagnosis. Worst case is either the TCS control module or the Throttle Body. Both are expensive :argh: new and a cheap ebay special may well be faulty.
If a pre 94 car very carefully check and clean the electrical connector and the pins on the Throttle Body. Post 93 cars had gold contacts in an attempt to resolve the problems these cars suffered from.
