I'm making progress on my first week trouble shooting. I had to do the emissions and safety inspection today. I passed both, however, at some point in the next year I will need new front brakes. The Saab specialist mechanic said that I will need a new shift lever link rod or something like that. He said mine was getting tired, but that he noticed it was a little shaky getting into reverse. So, I was not just inept. Also, after 5 days of driving, I am getting much smoother at shifting and driving in general. I have not figured out the exact timing for a pretend race scenario in which I maintain acceleration and maximum turbo boost as I shift up from first to fourth in one smooth, continuous series. Not that it would ever really come up in real world driving. I just hold that out there as a skill to eventually master.
As for the radio, as I said before, I have discovered the absence of rear speakers. I built some DIN removal tools with a wire coat hanger and a dremel tool and pulled out the head unit and the cd player. And...there was a blown #5 fuse behind the head unit. I will buy a replacement tomorrow and see if that fixes either my code or my cd player problems.
I have been able to even track down an owner's manual and some items as trivial as the Saab hood emblem through a combination of Ebay and this forum. I am still looking for a good fitting, nice quality dashboard cover to prevent additional cracks on the dashboard deck. I am also trying to track down some good leather conditioner. If anybody has any suggestions for these I would appreciate it.
Thanks!
