Screeching from AC compressor on startup Posted by Rod [Email] (#3128) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Rod) on Mon, 23 Mar 2009 04:34:44 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My 95 9kCSE has hardly been driven all winter (that's what my volvo's for!) but now that Spring is here I am noticing that when I first start the car I get a screeching noise (not really bad, but noticeable) that appears to be coming from the AC compressor. It seems that the AC clutch must get engaged for a brief time upon startup, because I see the outer part spinning for a few seconds and then it stops. If I later put the AC on, it seems OK - no nasty noises.
My first thought is to see if it goes away after some use, but my concern is the whole thing seizing as I'm driving along - that could be ugly. Anybody have any experience (good or bad) with this? Most other parts I would just replace, but this would not be cheap.
